From Legazpi City- Albay, Dean graduated in 2005 from the premier state university of Bicol with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. He then moved to Cebu to find a career that would bring him close to the sea.
He found work with the Coastal Resource Management where he specialized in the monitoring and in the evaluation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). During that period, Dean also took units in MS Environmental Science at the University of San Carlos- Talamban.
His work enabled him to dive, survey and study numerous MPAs in Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, Southern Leyte, Batangas and in the famous Tubbataha Reef of Palawan
It was in Bicol University when Dean obtained his Open Water Diver certification under the Professional Diving Instructors Corporation (PDIC). Progressions of his diver levels were made in Cebu under NAUI and he gained additional experience thru work-related dives.
In 2013, Dean achieved his goal to become a PADI Divemaster from the program offered by Saavedra Dive Shop in Moalboal.
With the Pawod Cave as the training ground, it was on March 2014 that Dean was initiated and mentored by Dr. Alfonso Amores (†) on the exacting science and art of cave diving. It was an excellent opportunity that Dean readily took since caves & technical diving holds a certain allure for him. He is now looking forward to extending his technical diving education further.
Dean is happily married and is blessed with a beautiful daughter.
